NASA rocket launches are incredible from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral. They happen from time to time and are big events that are exciting to experience if you’re in the area. The drive from Lelani Beach Club is about 1.5 hours with decent traffic. Get there several hours early to get a good viewing spot and bring food, drinks, sunscreen, good friends, etc.
The following places are closet and some of the best to view a launch because you can see, hear, and feel the event:
- Titusville has the next best locations such as the Max Brewer bridge, Parrish Park, and several little parks along US 1 right on the Indian River.
- The side of Rt 528 around the Banana River.
- Any of the beaches from Cocoa south.
Jetty Park is not as great a place because you can’t see the rocket on the pad or until a few seconds have gone by due to the topography. The Canaveral National Seashore and Playalinda beach may be closed so check before going.
Check out the latest info on the Port Canaveral web site. For example, see the detailed info provided there for the August 28, 2022 launch of the Artemis rocket. Artemis is the first planned uncrewed test flight in the NASA Artemis program which is designed to eventually land humans on the Moon.
Alternately, watch the launch in full virtual reality (VR) via the Meta Oculus as you sit by the pool.
