Why do Pools in Florida Have Enclosures or Screens?

All the homes at Windsor Island, similar resorts, and many private home in Florida have enclosures around their private pools. As this isn’t necessarily common in other areas, guests often ask the question “Why?”

First off, they are called “pool enclosures”…not “nets” or “cages”. They are large aluminum structures with screens that completely surround the pool.

There are many advantages to having a pool enclosure:

  • Privacy – Opaque vinyl screens called “Florida glass” can be added so that neighbors don’t have direct view into the pool area.
  • Enhanced Safety – The surrounding structure prevents youngsters from accidentally entering the pool area from the outside like a fence.
  • Pest Control – No mosquitos, flies, bugs, critters, and wildlife
  • UV Protection – Enclosures filter the sunlight to have protect you from UV rays that can damage or burn your skin. Think of it as a partial sunscreen.
  • Keeping Clean – The enclosure helps keep out dirt, leaves, and other debris from entering the pool water.
  • Security – Enclosures can assist in keeping out intruders.

And the #1 reason…If you’re playing with a beach ball…you won’t accidentally lose it.

We’ve found personally after experiencing a private pool with an enclosure that we like it a lot. It provides a sense of privacy and safety that feels good when you are at the home. Weather Resources

The weather in Florida is generally hot and sunny all year round. It does, however, get cooler in the winter. Here is my personal advice for dealing with the weather:

  1. Never trust what they forecast for the weather. Weather forecasters are insanely inaccurate in the micro. I don’t even know how they keep their jobs. Days forecasted for rain can be completely clear. Days forecasted for sunshine can become rainy quickly. You can’t plan on their information.
  2. Do not trust even what you see in the morning to predict the day for weather. When it looks nice outside it can quickly become pouring rain. When it looks rainly, it can change for a beautiful day.
  3. Always be prepared. Carry a windbreaker or ponchos for rain. Dress with layers so you can adjust if it gets cooler. Purchasing extra gear at the theme parks can be expensive. Better to have it in your backpack.
  4. Wait it out and don’t stress. A rainy day can become your opportunity for a wonderful day as the crowds clear out.

That said, here are some resources for up-to-date weather information…if you like to gamble.

Fortunately, Orlando is pretty safe compared to the coasts of Florida.

Showcase of Citrus a Fun Florida Family Adventure

Just up highway 27 towards Clermont, Florida is The Showcase of Citrus. Since 1989, Showcase of Citrus is a family owned and operated 2,500 acre estate with over 50 varieties of citrus. They’ve created a place with unique outdoor fun. You can pick your own oranges, browse through the gift shop, mine for gems, have a picnic, or get some ice cream or smoothies. It’s a great place to spend a couple hours.

Florida Summer Weather – How do I deal with the heat and rain?

If you don’t like the weather in Florida…wait 10 minutes and it will be back to normal. This meme is often true.

Dealing with the weather in Florida can sometimes be a challenge. With its humid climate, scorching summer temperatures, and frequent rain showers, you want to stay comfortable and safe. With the right preparation, you can make the most of Florida’s unique climate. Here are some tips for dealing with the weather in Florida:

1. Wear the Right Clothing: Lightweight, breathable fabrics are best for Florida’s hot and humid climate. Choose clothing that will keep you cool, such as cotton, linen, or light synthetics. Also, avoid dark colors, which tend to absorb heat. In the winter bring layers so you can add a sweatshirt if it gets cooler in the evening.

2. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, bring a reusable water bottle with you.

3. Protect Your Skin: Wear sunscreen and a hat to protect your skin from the sun. Sunburn can be quite severe in Florida, so it’s important to take preventive measures.

4. Watch for Rain: Florida is known for its rain showers, so it’s important to be prepared for wet weather. Carry umbrellas,  windbreakers or ponchos for rain or a sudden downpour. You can walk right through security if you carry an umbrella out in front of you instead of packed in your bag. Purchasing these items in advance will save you time and money vs. getting them at a theme park.

5. Plan Ahead: Check the weather forecast before heading out, so you know what to expect. This will help you plan ahead and be better prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. But take the weather report with a grain of salt. A projected rainy day can make for a great experience with shorter lines if others stay away.

Disney has plenty of indoor options for both rides, shows, and food where you can get cool in the air conditioning and sheltered from the elements. Grab a bite to eat inside the closest quick service meal until the rain passes.

By following these tips, you should be able to stay comfortable and safe while enjoying the Florida weather.
